Day 26: Casper, WY Elevation: 5125

Miles:  53.71
Average Speed:  8.85
Max Speed: 26.03
Total Miles:  887

Pretty unremarkable day today.  Hills and more hills.  Uphill speed is 4.5-5.0 mph.  Probably spend 70% or more of total ride time going up hills.  There was a town half way so I didn't eat much breakfast, counting on a second breakfast in Glenrock.  Glenrock is off the hiway some miles and being loathe to ride an extra mm I missed second breakfast.  Mighty hungry by the time reached Casper.

Staying at a campground here run by the Izaak Walton League - pleasant, right on the river, North Platte.  A little bike tuning tomorrow then south the following day where I expect to be incommunicado for two or three days; could be surprized of course.

Morning in Douglas

High plains to the north

Laramie Range to the south

Whole Foods:  Exploit the bourgeois
Cub Foods:  Exploit the poor

This courtesy of my expat friend Kurt.  I saw a Wal-Mart guy on CSPAN some days ago complaining
they could not compete in foreign markets because our taxes are so high.  A look at the bar graph shows he must have been complaining about Mexico.

Take care & keep in touch.

  1. Excellent!
I like the new water bottles: the universal recommendation of the ultralite backpacking crowd as well.
That's an impressive graph on the link. Thanks
    Safe travels.

  3. I've been following your progress from the beginning. Ride carefully, and do not pass anyone while you see double yellow lines in the center of the road.

  4. I hope the hills don't get discouraging. Just think about the decent! Looking at a map of the whole country you are almost half way as the crow flies! Really incredible journey. Be safe through the rest of the west and talk to you soon. Great graph on taxes. Someone should correlate that with standard of living or quality of life in those countries.
