Day 41: Salt Lake City, UT Elevation: 4,266

Miles:  45.07
Average Speed:  9.38
Max Speed:  28.31
Total Miles:  1,444

Two big hills today and one long downhill.  Took a side trip (first one, I think) into Park City for a look and to try to imagine it in February.  Passed Deer Valley, too.  Both places must also ski the backsides.  Came upon an accident on I-80 shortly after it happened today - pick-up truck upside in the median after side-swiping or being side-swiped by a semi.  Looked like both drivers were OK.  Made me realize how lucky I've been - haven't been in or caused an accident, haven't taken a spill, no stones thrown up by a truck, no T-storms while on the road, no bike trouble from which I couldn't recover, no snake bites, haven't been burned at the stake.  Have learned to keep mouth shut on the descents or you're likely to get second breakfast on the wing, and a bruised uvula.

Heber City in the AM - they have the color scheme reversed

Playing fox & hounds

Cool, still air early is perfect

Looking west to the Wasatch from road out of Heber City - Alta is up there somewhere

And Sundance is somewhere a little south (left)

Spooked these guys when I crossed the road for the previous photos - they took off running & jumping and suddenly stopped to stare - magnificent

Looking east back toward the Uintas (think I misspelled this range on previous post)

Jordanelle reservoir & dam - catastrophic breach & Heber City will cease to exist

Deer Valley

This lift in Park City was running

Part of the Park City slopes

Ahhhhhhhhh!

The Wasatch from Salt Lake

REI tomorrow morning, then make for the most western part of the city - edge of the desert.  Still considering options for the ride to West Wendover, NV.

  1. Steve,
I have been looking forward to Colorado, but more intrigued with Utah & Wyoming. Between you & Patrick I am enjoying a vicarious summer vacation! Glad you have had great weather, hope you can rest for a while, be safe.
