Day started cloudy & cool. Folks in Dawson said rain likely & thunder storms possible. Decided to try for it anyway & was lucky it turned out so well - only a very brief light rain and little wind. Where the ditches haven't been mown, the Redwing Blackbirds are on the attack constantly - a bit disconcerting at first, can't stand birds in my hair. It's amazing how much the land changes at the border - flat bean and corn fields to rolling hills in wheat and cattle. And hills, it was practically up hill all the way to Kranzburg only to lose at least half of it the last six miles into Watertown. Now I have to make that elevation a second time; remember how much we hated that on a few climbs.
May hang out here tomorrow too. I'm sending some stuff home to lighten the load & I need to find a water filter that could come in handy later. Hopefully, I can find a bike shop here as well. I've lost both toe clips so my low efficieny is now even lower.
I hope all is well with you.
Glad to hear it wasn't such a hot day at least. South Dakota--cool! Hanging out there tomorrow sounds like a good idea to me. Large enough town that you can entertain yourself exploring for a day.
ReplyDeleteWell done Stevie...one state down...six states to go. Take it easy and enjoy the scenery. Kathy reminds you to stay hydrated.
ReplyDeleteWay to go - you can check one off!!! I hope that your body is holding up better than your toe clips. Onward and upward.
ReplyDeleteWhew - What a hot trip through MN. SD next. The physical therapist in me reminds you that pacing is important. The days off are just as important as the mileage made. Glad you are taking some time to enjoy the stops and get a sense of the flavor of the communities. Let us know if you need help finding a water filter - REI is just down the road. Fend off those birds!
ReplyDeleteHi Steve! Reading your posts and wishing you well. Take care. What do you think about all those miles? Do you listen to music?
