Day 36: Dinosaur, CO Elevation: 5900

Miles:58.49
Average Speed:  9.23
Max Speed: 32.71
Total Miles:  1,226

Good road today & little traffic - perfect for the cyclist.  The landscapes and vistas are stunning.  Wish I had time & energy to visit the Dinosaur Monument - spoke to a ranger who described it in detail - fascinating - I'd especially like to see how they've preserved the fossil beds in place.  Next trip.

The town of Dinosaur is quite small, half abandoned and falling down.  It is yet another shrine to militarism - can't remember who said, 'the last refuge of a scoundrel is patriotism' and I don't think these people in Dinosaur are scoundrels but I do think the old adage applies to the right-wing ideologues who lead these folks around.

A guy at Lou's cafe in Maybell this morning told me the Illuminati, still pissed off over the church's treatment of Galileo, have infiltrated and taken control of the Free Masons and will soon take over the world.  I'm not sure of the Galileo or Free Mason connections, but I think I agree with the rest.

Tomorrow should be an easy day to Vernal, UT.

At the top of a ~3 mile hill, the cyclist thanks the civil engineers for eliminating 25 ft of the climb

Elk hunters' camp - building on the right is a horse stable

Vista

Looking north into the Dinosaur Monument - that's the Yampa River in the gorge on its way to join the Green

Was really looking forward to lunch at this old tavern in Massadona about 20 miles from Dinosaur - only open from 4-8:30 pm - power bar and dried apricots again

Vista

Looks like at least 5 distinct land forms right here

Ranch gate near Blue Mountain, ~8 miles from Dinosaur

Challenge to my friends who think of themselves as liberals. Proposition: A liberal in intellect & temperament cannot in conscience support the Democrat Party as it is today and for the last 25 years actually.

I hope everyone is well.

  4. The guy at Lou's in Maybell is no more delusional than liberals who vote for Democrats, expecting "change." HA!

    Another State behind you--well done!
