Pierre also represents first milestone of the trip - the Missouri River.
Pierre is a really nice little city, sitting in the river valley. Population is about 14,000 I'm told and you can see range land from the capitol grounds. The city is still on flood watch as you can see in the photos. The park & picnic grounds along the river are still under 5 ft of water - amazing this late.
Fort Pierre on west side of river protectd by sand bag dikes.
A few shots of downtown, where I found a nonfat vainilla steamer - skim milk is a rarity.
And a few shots of the capitol and grounds.
Plan to make for Midland early - may be incommunicado.
great pictures dad! fort pierre looks like it should be underwater in that photo. I'm really envious of your adventure. I just hope you keep being careful, and good luck with the last push through south datota. and the blog was a great idea, its really fun to be able to see pictures and hear about your experiences. -Patrick
